Here are how the different company's do part #'s
If you can't find a part #, you can always try searching for the item itself. For example "Dell D620 Inverter" or "Sony VGN-NR320E Fan"

Dell- They usually have a sticker that will say DPN- 0XD299. However, you only need to search for XD299. Leave off the "0" (zero)

HP and Compaq- They will have a number like this ######-001 other parts like usb boards will have a DA0 # or DAAT# on the small board itself. Also, things like lcd cables will be different and may start with FOX. For example FOXDDAT8ALC0041A.

Sony- When searching for Sony Vaio parts, do not search with the PCG #. Search with the VGN # which is usually on the front bezel. For example VGN-NR230E.

The motherboard will have a # like MBX-215. There will also be a # on the RAM Slot which you will also need to match for the motherboard IE MBX-215 A1765407A.  For other items that have a board like USB look for a similar # like SWX-277. On the DC Jack, it will be like 073-001-3775_A. Same for the LCD Cable.
Asus- Asus uses #'s like 13GNp21Ap012-1 or 13N0-E0A0601 or 60-NQYIN1000-A01
